Book Rental Scheme The cost of the Book Rental Scheme for the year 2020-2021 will be €80 per pupil.

  • Please note that, the Pupil Personal Accident Scheme is included in this fee. There will be 24-hour cover for all children. This means that your child will be covered 24 hours a day, for school activities, social, domestic and leisure activities (including during school holidays).
  • Should you wish to make a claim please visit Allianz.ie (Pupil Personal Accident Insurance) or contact the school and we can advise you on the procedure.
  • All the text books and novels which your child needs will be provided under the School Book Rental Scheme.
  • The €80 will also cover the cost of all photocopying, art supplies, school diary, text-a-parent and other miscellaneous items.
  • Money should be sent to the school (cheques payable to ‘Lismire School’) on or before Friday 24th September.  Money can be paid all at once, or in three installments:

Term 1 €30           Term 2  €25          Term 3 €25.

  • Each child is responsible for the care of his/her own books. All new books must be covered with clear contact (not loose plastic covers as they may tear).  Repairs should be carried out as necessary during the year. Please note: This includes novels which may be given out throughout the school year.
  • Infants and 1st class children will write in their Children in all other classes may not write into text books, unless they are instructed to do so by their teacher.  Light pencil marks which should be erased daily may be used to mark homework. Each child, in Mrs. Murphy’s room, should have one roll of toilet paper for Art. Again, this year we ask you to ensure that all school books are kept in good condition as we are keen to maintain our book lending scheme. The book rental scheme has worked very well for a number of years.  Parents in general have expressed great satisfaction with the scheme.

Photographs Occasionally, Sheila Fitzgerald (photographer for the Corkman) may take photographs which may appear in the Corkman. Please contact the school if you do not wish your child’s name along with their photograph to appear in the Corkman.  Any photographs that are published in the Corkman are available to purchase directly from Sheila at 087-9724878.

‘Student Details’ (Senior Infants to 6th)  Please see  ‘Student Details’ form below. Should any of the details have changed since last September, and you have not already made us aware, please ring Elle with the change.  You do not need to do anything if your details remain the same.

Below are some general reminders for the beginning of every school year

Starting Time: School Starting Time is 9.20 am. The school will be open at 9.10 am. I would like to thank parents for following the request to refrain from queueing before 9.10am. This will allow us to keep with one opening time (as some schools have staggered opening times to prevent groups congregating)

School Bus: Reminder: While we will wish that everything will run smoothly on the bus, if there are any concerns of a serious nature please refer to Bus Eireann (not Lismire school)– School Transport Section at  021 4557137 or 021 4557129. Should Bus Eireannn request our assistance in resolving any matter, we will of course be happy to assist them.

Playtime: All children go out during break, unless in exceptional circumstances, i.e. immediately after illness, or when injured.  We ask for a note if your child cannot go outside for playtime.

Lunches: Thanks to all the parents for their co-operation in implementing our Healthy Eating Policy, which continues to be very successful. As before, children will not be allowed to have sugary/fizzy drinks, cake, biscuits, crisps, sweets, snacks (including cereal bars) etc.

Collection of children at the end of school day: In the interest of safety, children will be instructed that they are to leave the school premises when the designated adult who is collecting them is visible from the school. If, for any reason, a parent/guardian is delayed, we would greatly appreciate if you could contact the school. We would ask, that in the interest of safety, children should not be expected to cross the road unaccompanied at home time. If you wish your child to walk unaccompanied to the church car park, walk to school or cycle to school, please let us know in writing

Absences: When your child is absent, we ask that you inform the class teacher in writing. At the back of your child’s school diary, there are blank absence notes. These are very convenient and we ask that you use these to inform the school of the reason your child is absent (one note will be okay for a family ie. No need to do separate notes if reason for absence is the same). Schools are obliged to monitor school attendance and to report, to the National Education Welfare Board, the name of any pupil who is absent for an aggregate of 20 days or more in a school year.

Invitations/cards eg. Birthday/Christmas: In order to prevent upset to any child/children who may be left out, we ask that invitations/cards be distributed outside of school. We appreciate your co-operation in this manner.

Concern about your child

Should you have any concern about your child or any aspect of your child’s school life, it is very important that you contact the school, directly, at the earliest possible stage. An appointment can be made through Elle, to meet (or speak over the phone) with the class teacher.

Please note an overview of the CPSMA(Governing body)/INTO agreed parental complaints procedure:

If a parent wishes to have a  concern addressed, the following steps must be followed

  1. Contact the child’s class teacher, with a view to resolving the matter.
  2. Where the parent/guardian is unable to resolve the matter with the class teacher she/he should approach the Principal with a view to resolving it.
  3. If the complaint is still unresolved the parent/guardian should raise the matter with theChairperson of the Board of Management with a view to resolving it.
  4. If the complaint is still unresolved and the parent/guardian wishes to pursue the matter further she/he should lodge the complaint in writing with the Chairperson of the Board of Management. All contact and correspondence with the Board of Management, at this stage, must go through the Chairperson only.

Please contact Elle, the school secretary if you have any queries (Elle’s usual working hours are 10am – 2pm, Monday, Wednesday, Friday).

Thanking you,

Ailín Fitzgerald.

Principal.
