Christmas Holidays: School will close at 12PM this Wednesday for Christmas Holidays (bus running at 11.50AM in order to accommodate Secondary School Closing time). Children can bring a treat and no uniform needed.

Christmas Concert A big congratulations to all the children and a big thank you to everybody for helping with the Concert, in advance and on the night.  The children worked really hard over the past few weeks and they did us all proud on the night.

A special thanks to the parents who sold raffle tickets, helped with the raffle, helped backstage , gathered raffle prizes, and to those who helped on the door. In addition, thanks to Margaret and Tim Ahern who put up the Christmas tree which greatly added to the festive atmosphere.

Thanks to the GAA who made the hall available to us for practices and on the night – it is a wonderful amenity and it provides the children with a great opportunity of being on a ‘real’ stage.

Dan is working on the DVD/memory stick-which will be ready after Christmas. More details to follow.

Christmas Raffle – thanks to the Parents Association who have again organised a lovely bag of goodies for each classroom. Raffle tickets are same price as usual €2 for a strip, 3 strips for €5. Tickets for sale tomorrow and Wednesday.

Ice/Snow conditions: The pathway from the gate to the door (between cones) will be salted if the yard is icy. While we endeavour to make the pathway as safe as possible, we would advise you to use your discretion when children need to brought to the door. In addition, during periods of cold weather, we will do our very best to keep the school open and open at the normal time (some schools delay start times). There may be days that main roads may be okay; however, some secondary roads may be dangerous to travel. Please use your own discretion in relation to road conditions and only travel to the school if it is safe to do so from where you are living. Should the school bus not be able to travel, a text will be sent as soon as Chris notifies the school.

Swimming: Swimming in January for children in will be on 5 consecutive Fridays starting on 13th January for children in Senior Infants to 6th Class. Unfortunately, this year, Mallow swimming pool cannot accommodate Junior Infants (due to the volume of children in small pool). The cost per child €45. More details below.

Clothes Collection: The Clothes collection was a great success again. €300 euro was raised at the clothes collection in November. Thanks to all who gave in bags. We will hopefully hold another one in Spring/Summer time.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support for the school. I wish you all a very happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you on Jan. 5th when school reopens (we will attend mass on the 6th).

Many thanks,

Ailín.

SWIMMING LESSONS (Senior Infants – 6th)

Swimming this year is for children in Senior Infants to 6th class. Unfortunately, this year, Mallow swimming pool cannot accommodate Junior Infants (due to the volume of children in small pool).

The dates for swimming 2023 are as follows:

Starting            Friday 13/01/23

                        Friday 20/01/23

                        Friday 27/01/23

                        Friday 03/02/23

                        Friday 10/02/23

The cost for the swimming this year is €45 per student.

Please send in the money in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, class and amount of money.

Money must be paid on or before Monday 13th of February.

Each child will need a bag containing:

  • Swimsuit (bikinis not suitable)
  • Swim cap
  • Large towel
  • A plastic bag
  • Hairbrush/comb
  • Pupils with long hair should bring a second towel to keep shoulders dry on return journey as there will not be time to dry the hair with hairdryers.

It is highly recommended by the staff at Mallow Swimming Pool that children would wear goggles, it is also a requirement that all patrons, using the pool, wear swimming hats. They also recommend that children wear a good quality silicone hat, that fits properly.

Children may wear their swimsuit/togs coming to school. Girls can wear swimsuit underneath their clothes but can leave the straps down to facilitate toileting, as our swim time is 12pm to 1pm. They must wear school shirt/t-shirt and jumper with track suit bottoms.

To save time, the children, on leaving the pool, will have a brief shower to remove chlorine.  They can have a full shower/shampoo at home in the evening.

  • Children must leave all jewellery (including watches) at home
  • Children are not to bring money
  • Children should not eat or drink on the journey to the pool
  • They may bring a healthy snack and a drink for the return journey no sweets etc. (as per school policy), except on the last day when children may bring one treat for themselves.
  • No mobile phones or electronic gadgets allowed

As swimming is part of the curriculum we encourage all students to participate.

It is our hope that this will be a positive, happy experience for every child.

If you have any concerns/queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

John Duggan
