September 9th 2022

Dear Parents,

Hope all are well and everyone is settling back into the school routine. We are delighted to be open and look forward to the year ahead.

A big welcome to our new pupils in Junior Infants– Ava, Alex, Emily, Cohen, Darragh, Sean, Siobhan, Jane and Micheál in Senior Infants. We wish them well in our school and hope they have a great year.

Please note that the First Communion for children in 1ST & 2ND class takes place on May 20TH 2023 at 11AM in Lismire Church.

The  Parents’ Association will be organising a Clothes Collection in the coming weeks – and in the meantime, should you (or any family/community members) have bags ready, you can drop them into the lobby area (anytime between 9.10 and 3pm) and we can store them until the collection date.

Please note that the school calendar for 2022-2023 was distributed last June and is on the school website

‘Cherryblossoms Lismire’ Playschool and before and after school-service. Please note that the playschool is now open. Should any parents wish to enrol a child in the playschool, or in the before and after school service provided, please contact Tina Dunstan on 087-6479031.

Book Rental Scheme The cost of the Book Rental Scheme for the year 2022-2023 will be €90 per pupil.

  • Please note that, the Pupil Personal Accident Scheme (Insurance) is included in this fee.
  • This is a benefits policy and covers medical and dental expenses following an accident. It is 24 Hour Cover and applies to social, domestic and leisure, 24/7, 365 days a year.  Expenses from hospital visits, GP visits, dental visits as well as physiotherapy (all resulting from an accident) can be claimed for.
  • Should your child have an accident that incurs medical expenses, please contact the school and we can give you the relevant information to proceed with a claim (the parent/guardian completes the claim form. The parent/guardian and the School Principal then sign the claim form. Finally, the claim form is sent to Allianz, along with relevant receipts).
  • I would encourage all families to avail of this insurance when the situation arises.

  • All the text books and novels which your child needs will be provided under the School Book Rental Scheme.
  • The €90 will also cover the cost of all photocopying, art supplies, school diary, text-a-parent and other miscellaneous items that arise during the school year.
  • Money should be sent to the school (cheques payable to ‘Lismire School’) on or before Friday 23rd September.  Money can be paid all at once, or in three installments:

Term 1 €30           Term 2  €30          Term 3 €30.

  • Each child is responsible for the care of his/her own books. All new books must be covered with clear contact (not loose plastic covers as they may tear).  Repairs should be carried out as necessary during the year. Please note: This includes novels which may be given out throughout the school year.
  • Infants and 1st class children will write in their books. Children in all other classes may not write into text books, unless they are instructed to do so by their teacher.  Light pencil marks which should be erased daily may be used to mark homework. Each child, in Mrs. Fitzgerald’s room, should have one roll of toilet paper and an ART T-SHIRT for Art. Again, this year we ask you to ensure that all school books are kept in good condition as we are keen to maintain our book lending scheme. The book rental scheme has worked very well for a number of years.  Parents in general have expressed great satisfaction with the scheme.

Photographs Occasionally, Sheila Fitzgerald (photographer for the Corkman) may take photographs which may appear in the Corkman. Please contact the school if you do not wish your child’s name to appear with with their photograph in the Corkman.  Any photographs that are published in the Corkman are available to purchase directly from Sheila at 087-9724878.

‘Student Details’ (Senior Infants to 6th)  Please see  ‘Student Details’ form below. Should any of the details have changed since last September, and you have not already made us aware, please ring Elle with the change.  You do not need to do anything if your details remain the same.

Below are some general reminders for the beginning of every school year

Starting Time: School Starting Time is 9.20 am. The school will be open at 9.10 am.

School Bus: Reminder: While we will wish that everything will run smoothly on the bus, if there are any concerns of a serious nature please refer to Bus Eireann (not Lismire school)– School Transport Section at  021 4557137 or 021 4557129. Should Bus Eireannn request our assistance in resolving any matter, we will of course be happy to assist them.

Playtime: All children go out during break, unless in exceptional circumstances, i.e. immediately after illness, or when injured.  We ask for a note if your child cannot go outside for playtime.

Lunches: Thanks to all the parents for their co-operation in implementing our Healthy Eating Policy, which continues to be very successful. As before, children will not be allowed to have sugary/fizzy drinks, cake, biscuits, crisps, sweets, snacks (including cereal bars) etc.

Plasters: Should you wish your child to wear a plaster in the event of a fall, please put plasters in your child’s bag. We can supervise your child while they apply a plaster/plasters.

Collection of children at the end of school day: In the interest of safety, children will be instructed that they are to leave the school premises when the designated adult who is collecting them is visible from the school. If, for any reason, a parent/guardian is delayed, we would greatly appreciate if you could contact the school. We would ask, that in the interest of safety, children should not be expected to cross the road unaccompanied at home time. If you wish your child to walk unaccompanied to the church car park, walk to school or cycle to school, please let us know in writing

Absences: When your child is absent, we ask that you inform the class teacher in writing. At the back of your child’s school diary, there are blank absence notes. These are very convenient and we ask that you use these to inform the school of the reason your child is absent (one note will be okay for a family ie. No need to do separate notes if reason for absence is the same). Schools are obliged to monitor school attendance and to report, to the National Education Welfare Board, the name of any pupil who is absent for an aggregate of 20 days or more in a school year.

Invitations/cards eg. Birthday/Christmas: In order to prevent upset to any child/children who may be left out, we ask that invitations/cards be distributed outside of school. We appreciate your co-operation in this manner.

Concern about your child

Should you have any concern about your child or any aspect of your child’s school life, it is very important that you contact the school, directly, at the earliest possible stage. An appointment can be made through Elle, to meet (or speak over the phone) with the class teacher.

Please note an overview of the CPSMA(Governing body)/INTO agreed parental complaints procedure:

If a parent wishes to have a  concern addressed, the following steps must be followed

  1. Contact the child’s class teacher, with a view to resolving the matter.
  2. Where the parent/guardian is unable to resolve the matter with the class teacher she/he should approach the Principal with a view to resolving it.
  3. If the complaint is still unresolved the parent/guardian should raise the matter with theChairperson of the Board of Management with a view to resolving it.
  4. If the complaint is still unresolved and the parent/guardian wishes to pursue the matter further she/he should lodge the complaint in writing with the Chairperson of the Board of Management. All contact and correspondence with the Board of Management, at this stage, must go through the Chairperson only.

Please contact Elle, the school secretary if you have any queries (Elle’s usual working hours are 10am – 2pm, Monday, Wednesday, Friday).

Thanking you,

Ailín Fitzgerald.

Principal.
